Seatowning 9/7/11: Carp Named AL Rookie Of The Month

  • Mariners 2, Angels 1 [box score]: King Felix had his way against the Angels. Hernandez struck out seven and only surrendered four hits in eight innings pitched. The recently called-up Michael Saunders grounded into a fielder’s choice in the fourth inning that scored Kyle Seager from third. Mariners 59-82, fourth place, 21 games back. Next game, Today at Los Angeles, 7:05 p.m. PT.
  • Mike Carp was named the American League Rookie of the Month yesterday. In my opinion, I think Carp has earned himself a permanent spot with the big league squad. Will he be this team’s starting left fielder, first baseman, or designated hitter next season.
  • Italian phenom Alex Liddi is up with the big league club now. Liddi has great offensive potential, but Dave Cameron from USS Mariner doesn’t think he’s ready for the majors quite yet. He still has an inability to make contact at consistent rate, a skill required to succeed in the majors.
  • Grantland put out their NFL preview, reviewing every NFL team. They aren’t high on the Seahawks or their quarterback situation. Tarvaris Jackson bashing seems like a common theme among those projecting the Seahawks for this upcoming season.
  • Skyline, Kentwood and Snohomish girls soccer teams are ranked in the top 15 of the the opening NSCAA west region rankings. View them here.
