The Sounders have finally seen what it tastes like to face defeat, and from every Sounders player and fans point of view, it doesn’t taste that good. While the previous game against San Jose game left a sour taste in the mouths of the team the Sounders now see where they have to improve. This week the Sounders are looking to correct their problems against DC United.

While the Sounders have been hot out of the gate and lost their last game, DC United are the exact opposite. To start the season DC United went 0-2-1 with losses to Sporting Kansas City and the Galaxy, and a tie to the Whitecaps until they won 4-1 against a struggling FC Dallas.

The strength of DC United is their midfield with newcomer Nick DeLeon leading theteam with 2 goals. In the midfield DC also has MLS veteran Dwayne De Rosario who currently has 2 assists. To top off their midfield is Danny Cruz who has 1 goal and 1 assist, To be able to control DC United is being able to control the midfield and not letting them get possession. The other player that the Sounders must keep an eye out for is their designated player forward Hamidi Salihi. DC United signed Salihi during the offseason to fix their scoring problem, but so far Salihi hasn’t produced with only 3 shots on goal in 3 games. If DC is able to succeed this season it will be because of the success of Salihi.

DC United this season have their problems, but the Sounders have their own issues in their first 3 games as well. The biggest issue of the Sounders has been injuries, which has benched 11 players, but there are no bigger players injured than Sounders’ midfielders Mauro Rosales, Brad Evans and Steve Zakuani. This week though Brad Evans is expected to start this week while Rosales and Zakuani are notexpected to. There may be a small chance though that Rosales is inserted into thegame in the late minutes, which would be huge for Sounders’ fans as he is a huge contributor in the midfield for this team. Against San Jose this was evident as the Sounders weren’t able to get the creativity for shots as they would with Rosales and Evans in the lineup. Having at least two of these players against a strong DC United midfield would be huge for the Sounders to win their first game on the road of the season.

While this is the first road game for the Sounders this season it is also not the most difficult game for the Sounders as DC United is struggling. If Brad Evans is able to play this game and Rosales comes in late I see the Sounders winning this game. If they don’t it will be even closer. Either way I see the Sounders as the stronger overall team winning 2-0 late in the game.

Go Sounders!!
