Coming off of a 1-0 loss to the Red Bull at home the Seattle faithful and even the players were wondering where the finishing is and how they can get the balls into the back of the net. This was the focus of this week’s practice and finishing all those opportunities that come from corners and free kicks. The addition of Pat Noonan definitely shows promise as he stepped on last game as a sub to provide an immediate presence for the Sounders, but he will need to improve on it this week and find the back of the net to show why we added him.
Real Salt Lake is the defending MLS Champions and this will be their homecoming for this 2010 season to defend that championship. Real Salt Lake this season is very much like the Sounders in that they retained a majority of their roster. This includes Kyle Beckerman, who is responsible for creating and scoring many goals for RSL last season, and Nick Rimando, who was very much responsible for the win over LA in the championship. This is a team that you might see in the championship again this season.
For the Sounders to win this Fredy Montero needs to get more involved in the offense, unlike last game, and the Sounders need to bring that intensity that they brought to the inaugural game. I see this game though as a tough game to win as it is RSL’s home opener and the fans there will be hyped up to show their support. I honestly don’t see the Sounders winning this game and losing 2-1, but I hope I’m wrong.
